International Registration Plan (IRP)

The International Registration Plan (IRP) is a registration reciprocity agreement among states of the United States and provinces of Canada providing for payment of license fees on the basis of total distance operated in all jurisdictions.

You will need to register through the IRP plan when you are traveling in 2 or more jurisdictions with a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) weighing more than 26,000lbs or a vehicle with 3 or more axles regardless of weight or used in combination with trailer for a combined GVWR weight that exceeds 26,000lbs.

You must apply for your Georgia Title and pay applicable sales tax and title fees at the County Tag Office before applying for your IRP license plate. Once the title process is complete you may visit the Georgia Trucking Portal and with a copy of your receipt to complete your registration.
