  • Please print the Homestead Exemption application form, complete the application and bring copies of the following documents to apply:

    • Copy of the Driver's License reflecting the address of the property you are claiming Homestead Exemption as well as your spouse's Driver's License
    • Copy of vehicle registrations, all vehicles need to be registered at this address
    • Copy of the Warranty Deed
    • If you own a home in another county or state, we will need a letter from that county stating you do not have a homestead on that property
    • If divorced, we will need a copy of the Divorce Decree

    You can apply in person at the Tax Commissioner's Office or print a form and mail it to the office. If mailing must be postmarked on or before April 1st, only USPS postmarked will be accepted as proof of the April 1st deadline.

  • No, the test is good for one renewal. If the emissions test was performed within the last 12 months a new test will not be required.

  • No, your renewal is due by midnight of your birthday.

  • We recommend having your vehicle inspected four to six weeks prior to your registration renewal date to allow for any needed repairs. If it is your renewal date and your vehicle has failed the emissions test, a repair waiver may be issued if you meet all of the specified qualifications.

    You may pay the ad valorem tax before your renewal date to avoid late penalties. If you are in your renewal period and your vehicle fails the emissions test you may receive a 30-day temporary tag providing all taxes are current and the vehicle has valid insurance coverage.

  • The law provides that the taxes due on the vehicle be paid on or before your birthday. There is a county ordinance that requires a current license plate to be displayed on a vehicle that is located on your property.

  • Property tax bills are mailed out by mid-September to the homeowner as of January 1.  You may also obtain a copy online.

  • In addition to the additional documents listed on the application checklist that you need to file for the Homestead Exemption, you must provide two doctors' letters or one doctor's letter and Social Security award letter stating 100% disabled and unable to be gainfully employed.
